Why is adult makeup not great for kids to play with?

It is already quite generally known that most makeup products are not exactly good for the skin.
If our makeup items are made up of harsh chemical compounds, it can’t be great for our delicate skin, which makes it certainly less great for the developing skin of growing children. When you dive a little deeper than the skin, you’ll find just beneath the layers there are veins, arteries, muscles, soft tissues, lymph nodes, micro- and other endocrine glands, there are fluid, healing cells that secrete from the bonemarrow within your skeleton in reaction to some of the contaminants that enter your body from the surface of your skin (that refers to the immune system, the nervous system, and all life supporting systems found in the body). So, to begin by understanding that the skin is not separate from the internal body will already allow us to logically deduce that any number of foreign compounds may aggravate any other number of health conditions not limited to dermatology.

What are the culprit ingredients in typical play makeup designed for kids?

General ingredients that we want to steer clear of when choosing makeup products for children (and adults) would include heavy metals (even trace amounts) like Arsenic, Cadmium, Lead or Mercury; asbestos as a byproduct of Talc in topical items; other overly complicated molecules like formeldahyde, phthalates, PFAS (known as forever chemicals) and any sythetically produced compounds.

What happens if kids use adult makeup?

If your child frequently uses regular retail topical products like makeup and lotions and their delicate skin doesn’t react by producing severe skin irritations, rashes, hives or allergic responses, it is easy to assume that there is no harm done. However, your skin is your body’s first layer of defence, and just underneath your skin we find most of your lymphatic and endocrine channels, nodes and glands. These systems assist in balancing immunity and hormones, as well as the detoxification processes and cleansing mechanisms of the body. When foreign toxins enter these systems through the skin, they may create blockages, inflammation, and disruption in the natural physics of these structures. So, even if there are no visible results produced by some of our favorite topical fragrant creams or ultra-coverage foundations, there may be a deeper effect that we are entirely unaware of. Hormone function and immunity supports all mental and physical purposes of the body and mind, thus even mental-emotional wellbeing may be affected, alongside any number of organ-related inefficiencies or cognative imbalances.

When can kids start playing with makeup?

We recommend most of our products to children aged three to thirteen. Though, it is never an easy question to answer. Thus, we also recommend to apply reason, and practice critical thinking to make an informed and logical decision based on that intimate analysis. Our recommendation is based on pretend play, and for the purposes of imaginative creative play. Then the only question is whether the child is old enough to know not to eat the topical products. If they need active, participation and supervision during makeup play, then they are probably still too little to be exposed to such unnecessary ingredients on their skin. We have a few small items catered to such toddlers, with no spillage and minimal risk of ingestion. It is our understanding that no child needs makeup. It would be the more responsible method to teach kids from a young age that the applied makeup is only a small part of the fun, getting to clean up the facial canvas after each playful session allows us to have healthy skin to pamper up again the next day.

My little one wants to play with makeup, but I’m not keen on her playing with my makeup. What should I do?

Luckily, this is the reason we exist!
As our little inspiration (sweet young Cassidy) wanted the same thing and her innovative mother didn’t want to get her the play makeup that was available in the retail market at the time. That is why she started creating her own formulations of natural, clean, non-toxic, mineral makeup. The animal crulety that was still being tolerated in the industry was another cause very dear to our hearts, which is why we also vowed to remain cruelty-free in all our product testing practices. If you do not want your child to have their own makeup yet, another sweet way to make them feel special is to add a few small non-toxic products to your own makeup kit for them to have something of yours they are allowed to play with.
