You might have noticed that in some of our products we have ingredients such as cetyl alcohol, cetearyl alcohol and even isopropyl myristate sounds like it has alcohol in it!
So what exactly is this alcohol then?
The alcohols we use in our makeup products are actually saturated fatty alcohols which are plant derived. They are often derived from coconut and palm oils.
In chemistry alcohol means an organic compound in which a hydroxyl group is bound to a carbon atom. The alcohol that most people think of first when they hear the word alcohol is volatile alcohol, examples include ethanol (which is found in wines, vodkas or other alcoholic beverages) as well as isopropyl alcohol which is also known as rubbing alcohol.
Cosmetic alcohols, ethanol and isopropyl alcohol all meet the chemistry definition of alcohol, however what we use in our makeup products at Cassie Kids are not the volatile alcohols. Our makeup products are made using fatty alcohols which means that the products are non-irritating and non-drying. So at the end of the day really different from ethanol and isopropyl alcohol!
