Our vegan and non-vegan options

The choice to be vegan is quite a personal one. And it is our priority to provide play products, personalized to meet your preferences. We love supporting the power of plants as they supply us with more than just oxygen and carbohydrates.

Did you know that veganism isn’t really a modern trend? The term was coined by Donald Watson sometime in the 1940’s.

Another interesting aspect of being plant-based, especially in the dietary sense, is that you can lower the risk of many chronic illnesses. Overall, each vegan individual is also minimizing their carbon-footprint by approximately 73% – so the benefits of “going green” extends far beyond what we put in or on our bodies. Veganism might just be the most vital modern movement for humans to achieve greater veracity.

In our standard (or non-vegan) product options we use beeswax. Although our beeswax is sustainably sourced, we respect our gentle customers’ requirements by offering a few vegan makeup for kids options. All our vegan products are formulated with candelilla wax instead of beeswax. Candelilla wax is a plant-based wax derived from the leaves of the small Candelilla shrub native to northern Mexico and the southwestern United States.

We have chosen to use candelilla wax instead of carnauba wax; here’s why:

Environmental and social challenges have come to light in Carnauba wax extraction areas in northeast Brazil. These concerns include high rates of deforestation, degradation of local biodiversity, persistent drought, rapid expansion of invasive species, as well as poor working conditions and low pay for the people.

Just as powerful as plants can be, it is crucial that we remember how potent our production methods sometimes are. Despite the unsustainable nature of some plant extraction techniques, being “plant-powered” or vegan is still one of the most effective ways for any individual to support the planet in reducing detrimental manufacturing and distibution practices, and thus assisting in restoring the balance in our ecosystem.

Play pretend & keep planting!
